Which businesses is Antalis acquiring?
Antalis, a European paper distributor, and OptiGroup, the seller in this deal, have signed a binding agreement. Antalis will take over Papyrus's paper wholesaling businesses in Germany and Switzerland, as well as in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The deal is still subject to customary closing conditions and approval from the relevant competition authorities. Until it closes, both sides will continue to operate independently. In 2025, the companies included in the deal had net revenue of about €215 million, 255 employees, and 12 warehouses. They served more than 13,000 customers and supplied around 21,000 types of printing and office paper. MINDS (MS), a provider of mid to high end fully customized commercial printing, starts its "three checks: item numbers, inventory, and substitute samples" with the scope of the deal. These figures describe the businesses included in the deal today. They do not guarantee that every item will remain available after closing

Will this deal affect paper prices in Taiwan?
Taiwanese brands should keep an eye on the deal, but there is no basis yet for concluding that paper prices will rise. German print industry publication Print.de reports that after closing, Antalis will integrate customers, teams, and logistics across ten markets. It has not announced any changes to Taiwanese distributors, prices for individual paper types, or supply to Asia. MINDS (MS) sees the deal as a sign that supply routes could be reshuffled. If European distributors or regional inventory arrangements change, that could affect lead times and quotes in Taiwan, but suppliers still need to confirm any changes. For procurement teams, asking about stock and replenishment commitments for commonly used paper numbers is more useful than turning the news directly into a price increase notice
What should brand buyers ask suppliers first?
Start by getting written supply information at the item number level. MINDS (MS)'s three checks, covering item numbers, inventory, and substitute samples, narrow the questions down to things procurement teams can verify:
・For item numbers, list the brand, full product name, and item number for commonly used European papers. Record papers with similar series names separately
・For inventory, confirm the distributor, warehouse location, quote validity period, and usual replenishment time. Also ask who will notify you if an item is out of stock
・If the ordering contact changes after closing, ask the supplier how they will notify you and when the change takes effect
・For substitute samples, identify alternatives for important specified papers and get samples approved in advance. Keep ordering under the original item number until the brand approves the replacement
How can you avoid changes to the finished product when substituting paper?
Inspect printed finished pieces. Matching paper weight and name alone does not make two papers equivalent. MINDS (MS)'s substitute sample check can compare paper shade, feel, stiffness, and printed color using the same artwork, then confirm how the finished piece looks after trimming, scoring, or coating. If packaging or brand materials state the paper's origin or recycled content, check the supply documents for that specific item number too. Which Papyrus businesses are outside this deal?
The deal does not cover all of Papyrus's operations in Europe. OptiGroup is keeping the Papyrus and Scaldia companies in the Benelux and Scandinavian regions. Papyrus Germany currently mainly sells small format printer paper and copy paper. MINDS (MS)'s three checks do not assume that every fine art, specialty, or industrial paper has a new distributor just because of this news. The roughly 21,000 items listed are printing and office papers, and no arrangements for exports to Taiwan have been announced. Brands should next check with distributors, by commonly used paper number, to confirm the post closing sales contact and replenishment process. The 12 warehouses show the scale of the distribution network included in the deal, but they do not guarantee delivery times for any individual paper type

Key points
・The deal still needs approval. The information available is not enough to conclude that paper prices in Taiwan will rise
・Check the distributor, warehouse location, and replenishment time first, then assess whether the supply route has changed
・The roughly 21,000 items describe the scope of the deal. They do not mean Antalis will take over supply of every European paper type
・Get brand approval for substitute paper samples and inspect finished pieces before updating procurement item numbers
A further thought
Print shops can put commonly used paper item numbers, distributors, warehouse locations, and quote expiry dates in a procurement master sheet. Design teams can keep approved paper samples and printed color samples on file, so brand buyers can judge whether a paper change affects visual standards. An AI/SaaS procurement tracker can organize supplier change notices, quote expirations, and out of stock backup plans, then remind the people responsible to check them. Brand approval for substitute paper still needs to come from a person. MINDS (MS) can start by reviewing a group of high volume, lead time sensitive paper numbers, so procurement, design, and the print shop share the same item numbers and approval records

FAQ
- Has Antalis completed its acquisition of Papyrus Germany?
- Not yet. Antalis and OptiGroup have signed a binding agreement, but closing conditions and approval from the relevant competition authorities are still pending. MINDS (MS) advises buying under current supply arrangements and updating contacts only after suppliers confirm a change
- Will this deal make European paper in Taiwan more expensive?
- The available source does not announce prices or changes to supply in Taiwan, so it does not support a conclusion that prices will rise. MINDS (MS) advises checking the actual distributor, inventory, and replenishment commitments first
- Which Papyrus businesses are outside the deal?
- OptiGroup is keeping the Papyrus and Scaldia companies in the Benelux and Scandinavian regions. When reviewing procurement, MINDS (MS) advises keeping those regions separate from the areas covered by this deal
- What does Papyrus Germany mainly supply today?
- The source says Papyrus Germany currently mainly supplies small format printer paper and copy paper. MINDS (MS) does not infer from this that all European specialty papers are part of the deal
