Tick what the project actually did (certified paper, material reduction, recycled stock, local production, water-based inks, waste recovery, renewable energy, supply chain disclosure, reusable packaging) and the tool lists the related SDG targets, the basis for each mapping, and a paragraph ready to paste into a report. Target wording comes verbatim from the UN Statistics Division SDG API. One thing to be clear about: this maps relevance, not achievement. It is not a certification or third-party verification, and every claim still needs its supporting documents. ## How to Use 1. Tick only the practices this project actually carried out on the checklist 2. Fill in Project name, optional, so the generated paragraph names the project 3. Read the Related SDG targets list and the Basis note next to each one 4. Gather supporting documents for each practice before copying the ESG report paragraph ## Method & Assumptions The 17 goals and 169 targets were retrieved once from the UN Statistics Division SDG API and stored as a static file under tools-data. Nothing is called at runtime, so there is no cost and no outbound request. Target wording is unmodified and the retrieval date is shown on the page. Nine common print project practices each map to one or two targets, and every mapping carries a stated basis so you can judge whether it holds rather than having to trust the table. Where several practices point at the same target they are merged, with the contributing practices listed, so nothing is double counted. Results are ordered by target number, not by the order you ticked them. Every target code referenced by the mapping table is checked against the SDG data by an automated gate. If the data is updated and the table points at a target that no longer exists, the test fails rather than silently rendering a target that is not there. Everything runs in your browser; your inputs are never sent to a server. ## Use Cases - Certified paper plus material reduction plus waste recovery maps to SDG 12.2, 12.5 and 15.2, with 12.5 reached by two of the three practices. - Local production maps to SDG 8.2 and 9.4, and the stated basis flags that any transport emissions benefit has to be calculated separately rather than claimed outright. - Water-based inks map to SDG 3.9 and 12.4, on the sound chemicals management side. - When a customer sends a supplier ESG questionnaire, paste the generated paragraph in and attach the supporting documents for each practice. - At quoting stage, use it to show which targets a given specification would relate to, turning sustainability from a slogan into a checkable number. - Before sustainability copy is finalized, marketing, design and legal each check the same target mapping so every claim points back to a specific practice and basis ## FAQ ### Can this serve as ESG certification? No. It maps which SDG targets your practices relate to. It is not achievement of those targets, not a certification and not third-party verification. To make an external claim, each practice needs its supporting documents. ### Did you write the target wording? No. The 17 goals and 169 targets are taken directly from the UN Statistics Division SDG API without rewording, and the retrieval date is shown on the page. ### Why can't local production be claimed as a carbon reduction? Because transport emissions depend on actual distance, mode and load, none of which follow from the word local. The tool maps it to SDG 8.2 and 9.4, which concern local economic productivity and infrastructure. Any emissions benefit has to be calculated separately. ### What if I tick something the project did not do? The tool will not know, but your customer will. The value here rests entirely on honest ticking; claiming a practice you cannot document plants a problem inside your customer's ESG report. ### Can I use this to claim carbon neutrality? No. SDG mapping and emissions accounting are different things, and this tool calculates no emissions at all. Carbon neutral, zero carbon and fully sustainable claims are an active greenwashing enforcement target in the EU. ### Does the SDG data get updated? Yes. A built-in gate checks that every target code in the mapping table still exists. If the data changes and a code no longer matches, the test fails rather than quietly showing the wrong target. ## Limitations & Disclaimer - The output is a relevance mapping, not a claim of achievement, certification or third-party verification. - The nine practices cover common print project scenarios rather than every industry practice; a practice not listed is not necessarily unrelated to the SDGs. - No emissions or quantified benefits are calculated, so it cannot answer how much carbon was saved. - It must not be used to support carbon neutral, zero carbon or fully sustainable claims. - Target wording is kept in the original English rather than translated, so that a translation choice is never mistaken for official text.
